The Gift of Being Grand

Watch Father Donald Conroy’s talk, “Grandparents Are Forever: Approaches to Intergenerational Mission and Ministry” at the 2017 Catholic Grandparent Conference.

Resources from the 2017 Catholic Grandparent Conference are now posted under Resources.

The Holy FamilyGrandparents have incredible influence and God is asking grandparents to continue to pass on the faith to their children’s children.

“. . . make them known to your children and your children’s children . . .”

Deuteronomy 4:9

Grandparents bring unconditional love, faith and wisdom through the window of life’s experience which helps build a family heritage where children can flourish.

“We will not hide them from their children;
we will tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,
and the wonders that he has done.”

Psalm 78:4

Mission Statement

The Catholic Grandparent Ministry invites grandparents to grow deeper in prayer for their children and grandchildren and to be authentic witnesses of Jesus. God’s plan for grandparents calls them to help their families become disciples of Jesus Christ. The Catholic Grandparent Ministry strives to build a community of support and healing for grandparents, to encourage them to live holy lives, and to equip them with the tools to build up their families and parishes in Christ.

Starting a Grandparent Ministry at Your Parish

Starting a Grandparent Ministry of prayer and learning at the parish is important, however please be sure to ask permission from your Pastor and understand that not every parish is in a position to support a new ministry. Please respect his decision. If your Pastor grants permission to start a Grandparent Ministry, inquire from the parish staff about a meeting room, timing and resources. Only then should you start implementing the Parish Plan.

Workshops provide for ongoing evangelization for you and for others, so be encouraged to invite a friend. The workshops offer a variety of experiences and provide opportunities for growing in holiness and learning how to actively pass on the faith. Please check the website often as more workshops are added throughout the year.

Grandparent Prayer

Heavenly Father, through the intercession of the Holy Family, grant to this local Church the many graces needed to foster, strengthen, and support faith-filled holy families.

We thank you for the mission of grandparenting. Help us live holy lives and equip us with the tools to build up our families and parishes. Grant us the wisdom, courage and love to be for each other a community of healing and support.

Through the intercession of Saints Joachim and Anne, Jesus’ grandparents, send us the graces we need to be authentic witnesses as disciples of Jesus so our children and grandchildren will come to know, love and serve you, Lord.

We ask this in Jesus name.
