Why do I have to confess to a priest?

y-confesspriest-wofIn the video below, Father Robert Barron explains why we confess to a priest. We are embodied people who need a very real and physical encounter with Christ. Through the mediation of a priest we receive the full power of what Christ is about. The priest in all the sacraments, and especially in confession, is acting in Persona Christi, the very person of Christ. When the priest says, “Your sins are forgiven,” it is Christ’s Word, His voice, that mediates the forgiveness of sins.
