What is the truth of Church teaching on sexuality and love?

y-sexuality-wofIn the video below, Father Robert Barron explains the truth of Church teaching on sexuality and love. St. Paul says, “I urge you therefore by the mercies of God to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.” Through the act of sacrifice we become conformed to God.

To sacrifice the whole of your life – mind, will, passions, emotions, body, sexuality, everything in you – is being transformed into love. The Church’s teaching on sexuality is meant to be conformed unto love, and is meant to be a vehicle of love within the context of marriage. The Church says “no” to rape, sexual abuse, and manipulation because these are betrayals of love. The Church also says “no” to a conscious and deliberate blocking of the procreative function of sex, because being open to life is another way of expressing love. The Church corrects, cajoles, and encourages us and holds us up to a very high ideal.
