What is Lent?

what-is-lentIn the video below, Father Robert Barron explains what Lent is. Catholics are not puritans. We like the pleasures of the body and we think they’re good and God-given. But when they become dominant, they become like a god to us. During Lent we are meant to go into the desert and confront the devil, and all of the temptations towards sensual pleasure, honor and glory. When we have made those things the center of our life, we can no longer be a fit bearer of God’s presence. However, when we rise against temptation we are strengthened to do God’s work.
